Telehealth Assessment Service

Dr Jodie Carter graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1992. She has been working in the specialty of psychiatry since 1996, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Carter is a general adult psychiatrist, working with people over 18 years of age. Her areas of special interest include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Intellectual Disability Psychiatry.

Dr Carter has many years of experience diagnosing and recommending management for these conditions, gained during her time in the public mental health sector, followed by over a decade in solo private practice.

Psychiatric Assessment

Dr Carter’s telehealth service is designed to work in partnership with you and your GP. The service provides a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, typically completed over 1 to 4 sessions.

Following the assessment, Dr Carter will prepare a detailed report for you and your GP. This report will include:

  • A description of your symptoms and experiences, including an outline of your medical and personal history

  • Mental state examination findings

  • Results of any relevant investigations and rating scales

  • A diagnosis (or diagnoses) where appropriate

  • Recommendations for ongoing treatment

Fees

Dr Carter’s fees are aligned with the Australian Medical Association recommended fees for private psychiatrists.

Initial appointment 50 minutes - $530 (Medicare rebate $262.10)

Follow-up appointment 50 minutes - $475 (Medicare rebate $184.90)

Follow-up appointment 30 minutes - $355 (Medicare rebate $134)

Follow-up appointment 15 minutes - $240 (Medicare rebate $87.05)

Dr Carter also offers item number 291 assessments - $980 (Medicare rebate $455.60)

Medication

In some cases, Dr Carter may commence medication during the assessment process. If this occurs, she will ensure that you are established on your medication before discharge back to your GP. If medication is not commenced during the assessment process, clear directions will be provided to your GP to assist them in the ongoing care of your mental health needs.

Please be aware that Dr Carter does not provide ongoing care for clients.

Telehealth Appointments

All appointments will be conducted via telehealth videocall allowing you to participate from home or another quiet, comfortable space where you have a reliable connection to the internet. Any device with an internet browser can be used, including a computer, tablet or smartphone. No sessions will be recorded.

Most assessments will require 3 to 4 sessions. The initial session will be 50 minutes. The following sessions will vary in duration be of varying time durations. The length of follow-up appointments will be decided upon at your initial appointment.

Dr Carter’s consult days are flexible.

GP Referral Process

A letter from your GP (General Practitioner) requesting a psychiatric assessment is required. Please ask your GP to include your email address as this is our preferred method of communication.

This letter can be faxed to (07) 3103 4399, sent via email to reception@drjodiecarter.com or through secure messaging using Medical Objects or HealthLink.

Once this referral has been received and accepted, an introductory email will be sent explaining Dr Carter’s service in more detail and offering appointment times.

New referral appointments are available within a 3 to 4 week period.
